About Blue

Little Blue (She/Her) is a Spoken Word Poet who was born and raised in Philadelphia. After serving in the United States Navy as a Master-at-Arms, she made Portland, Oregon her new home. Blue’s passion for poetry ignited in High School when she joined the slam team at The Philadelphia High School for Girls’. There she competed through the Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement (PYPM).

At 23, Little Blue self published her first collection of poetry, Before I Self Destruct, in 2020. This body of work focuses on spreading mental health awareness in hopes that people will become more familiar with the topic and find healthy avenues to cope. Blue uses her words to paint murals and discuss topics of racism, police brutality, family issues and her rough experience in the city of “Brotherly love.”

Little Blue’s poetry has been featured in the Culture Icon Magazine Issue 2, and on Button Poetry. She also had the honors of being one of the opening acts for Rupi Kaur on the Rupi Kaur World tour in May of 2022 and also featured at Da Poetry Lounge.

Q&A:

Q: What do you think is the deepest kind of connection?

A: The connection between a mother and a child. The way a mother is a child’s first home. The way a mother provides, protects, leads and just knows their child’s mannerisms. The chemical bond between the two. During labor, a woman produces oxytocin known as, “the love drug.”

Q: If you could visually describe your soul/aura, what would it look like?

A: When I am safe to be myself, I would describe my aura as a sunflower field. The color yellow and something soft. A warm and sunny place where things can grow and thrive.

Q: Teleport or time travel?

A: Time travel so I can hug my mom before her mental health took over and see my brother before he passed away.

Q: Speak many languages or be able to speak to animals?

A: Speak to animals. I am always wondering what my dog is thinking. He is the only thing that loves me unconditionally and I’d love to hear his thoughts.
